On November 5, 2015, in Hangzhou was held solemnly the Academicians’ Summit Forum of 2015 (Third ) West Lake International Seawater Desalination and Water Reuse and 40th Anniversary Ceremony of the Founding of “Technology of Water Treatment” Magazine sponsored jointly by Hangzhou Water Treatment Technology Development Center (HWTT for short hereafter), Chinese Seawater Desalination and Water Reuse Society, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy for Oceanography, National University of Singapore.
With the theme of“Innovation Driving Development, Environment Changing Future”, the assembly was carried out surounding the hot points of seawater desalination, five-water treatment, separation and resouce utilization etc. industries. Over 400 experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs from the colleges and universities, scientific research institutions and enterprises, such as the Insitute of Seawater Desalination and Multipurpose Utilization, SOA (Tianjin), Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University etc., and social circles, participated in the assembly. Mr. Gao Congji, the meeting’s chairman, the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Zheng Genjiang, the director of HWTT, successively addressed. Mr. Jian Xigao, Mr. Qu Jiuhui, and Mr. Gao Congjie, the members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Zhong Taisheng, the member of Singapore Academy of Engineering Sciences, etc. successively made brilliant academic reports. Dr. Yang Shangbao presided over the meeting.
During the assembly were held the Academicians’ Summit Forum of National Seawater Desalination and Water Reuse and Seminar of Industrial Development, High-level Forum of National Separation Technology and Resource Utilization, Workshop of Zhejiang Provincial Industrial Promotion for Five-water Treatment, Roundtable Dialogue of “Innovation Driving Development, Environment Changing Future”, “Chinese Seawater Desalination Yearbook Press Conference (2014)”, First Recommendation and Purchasers Assembly for Water Treatment Engineering Equipment etc. special activities of multi-academic exchange and industrial development. The academicians, professors, enterprise executives, and industrial veterans from many well-known colleges and universities, institutions at home and abroad made over 40 topic reports, shared the developing status, applying conditions and trends of the seawater desalination and water treatment industries in our country, promoting rapid and healthy development of seawater desalination and related water treatment industries, and gaining win-win situation of eco-environmental protection. At the same period of the assembly were held election of replacing directors at expiration of office terms of 7th Council of Chinese Seawater Desalination and Water Reuse Society, and the first annual meeting of Zhejiang Provincial Membrane Industrial Association.
After the opening ceremony and academicians’ summit forum, a grand ceremony for 40 anniversary founding of “Technology of Water Treatment” Magazine was held. A celebration scene reviewed the developing course of “Technology of Water Treatment” magazine through a form of sand painting to convey the magazine operating direction of keeping up with the times, sticking to its own characteristics, and sustainable development, meanwhile, Mr. Gao Congjie, the present chief editor and the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zheng Genjiang, the director of HWTT, awarded prizes for dozens of excellent members of editorial board and editors to commend their contribution to the development of “Technology of Water Treatment” magazine.
In addition, the assembly set up exhibition to centrally exhibit the advanced technologies of seawater desalination and water reuse, equipment and devices etc. at home and abroad. After the assembly, the participants were arranged to pay a visit to a 90000 t/ d deep treatment project with shallow layer air flotation for printing and dyeing wastwater at Shaoxing Binhai Industrial Zone.
The West Lake Assembly is an international academic event with international vision and academic foresightness, attracted many senior experts, scholars and well-known enterprise executives in the fields related to seawater desalination , water treatment at home and abroad to participate in it. The assembly has turned into a high-end feast carrying out overall technological exchange and industrial cooperation of water treatment technologies in our country. The assembly will result in active influences on helping construction of the manufacturing base at national level for seawater desalination equipment, deepening our country’s water resource protection and water reuse, promoting development of our country’s seawater desalination industries and related feilds, driving transformation of scientific and technological payoffs and industrial progresses.
